About Wesleyan College

Wesleyan draws a wonderfully eclectic mix of women – about 700 in all – from across the United States and more than twenty countries, bringing to campus a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. Wesleyan students choose to study here because they want to test their limits. The bar is set high because our students demand it. First for Women isn’t just a claim to fame - it’s a philosophy that explains why Wesleyan women continue to make history today.

Wesleyan Shares its Treasures with Museums and Historic Houses

April 3, 2018

Wesleyan College is pleased to loan the desk and several archival objects of noted poet, musician, soldier, and Macon native Sidney Lanier (1842 -1881) to the Historic Macon Foundation, in care of the Sidney Lanier Cottage.

Lanier’s desk was donated to Wesleyan by longtime Macon resident and alumnae Mrs. W.D. Solomon, Class of 1876, during an Alumnae Council Meeting on November 3, 1944. Included among Wesleyan’s Lanier artifacts are sheet music, several pages with his inscription, and his flute.

Other historically significant artifacts in Wesleyan’s collection can be found in the Georgia Room on the third floor of Willet Library. The room houses special collections from notable Wesleyan students, faculty, staff, Georgia authors and artists, and rare Americana items.

Highly regarded and appreciated works of art and historic artifacts owned by the College are sometimes loaned to museums and other institutions for curated exhibitions. To request a loan from Wesleyan's collection, please contact Wesleyan’s Curator of Collections Lisa Sloben at lsloben@wesleyancollege.edu
